get a starbucks card account already!

this really only applies if you go to starbucks (no matter how often)

so i’ve been meaning to write this for a while now. i was going to write it on MoG, but i think i’d sound like a prick, telling people what to do… plus i don’t want to care about punctuation and grammar

anyway, there are several reasons to get a starbucks card account…

  • consolidate all your cards into one – this is huge, especially after the holidays or a birthday
  • perks – free drink on your birthday, free syrups, free refills on brewed coffee/tea, free beverage with whole bean purchase, and free drink every 15 stars (gold level)
  • cool guy status – you’ll get a gold card (after 30 stars) OR you can pay for your order with the iPhone or Android app (pay with the app and people will think you’re from the future)

* there used to be a roundabout way to get free wifi (for 2 hours) at starbucks by reloading a gift card over and over… but they now offer free wifi (no time limit) in their coffeehouses

as greg always says, “everyone’s going cashless”

i can’t really see any cons in setting up a starbucks card account… are there any? if there were, the benefits would definitely outweight the negatives

it’s been a loooong couple of weeks for me… not only do i have a plateful at work, i got several projects for gorirra i gotta take care of.

i LOVE procrastinating… i actually wanted to write this post earlier in the week, but, well… you know how that goes?

so anyway, i wanted to work in “solitude” so i hit up a starbucks over by my place that doesn’t get much business. i get in and just as i thought… not many people in there and there was a big table for me to set up my laptop and other crap

i go to the baristas and ask about the wireless and apparently it’s not just for t-mobile hot spots or at&t users anymore! all i had to do was get a starbucks card and then register it… i’d then have 2 free hours of wifi there everyday.

i was looking at the card’s rewards and they’re pretty good… especially the free drink on your birthday.

after 5 stars (you get a “star” each time you pay with the card), you get to customize your drink with syrups, butterfingers, cheeseburgers, etc.

after 30 stars, you get a free drink after 15 stars

not bad… i’d really just like the free wireless angle of it — they had me at hello

so anyway, i was talking to the baristas there cuz they looked pretty bored and i mentioned foursquare and how i want to be the mayor of the place.

i swear they looked at me like i was a visitor from the future… “whaaaaat? fouurrsqqquareee?”

they mentioned that they got a letter about it, but they didn’t quite grasp it… so this means i shouldn’t be mayor of this particular one — they wouldn’t know what to do…

i’m not creative today — but i did find out something cool

i’m sure most of you know that you have to pay to use the wireless internet at starbucks (lame)… buuuut, a way around this is to buy a gift card (any denomination — could be $5, since you’re already gonna get a coffee anyway) and you get something like 2 hours of internet ussage.

keep that card so you can basically reload it to get more hours of interwebz

*it’s been tested and i found a link that “confirms” it too
