cameron played his first t-ball game last weekend! he finally got to do what he’s watched his older brothers do so many times (including a free snack at the snack bar…)

for mom’s 60th birthday, we surprised her with brunch aboard a hornblower yacht. this was the biggest of the hornblowers, the inspiration. she was surprised, we drank dramamines, mimosas, and feasted for a couple hours while the yacht cruised around the bay. it was a great day full of happiness, friends, and family

Had the honor of taking photos of my niece for her one month anniversary. I’ve never done a “new baby” photoshoot before, but I took it as a challenge. I knew what type of shots I wanted to do — and what shots I didn’t want to do (eg Sofia in a hallowed-out watermelon a la Anne Geddes… blech).

The challenge was in post-production. I’m in love with the film look that many photographers are mimicking. It softens the photo and adds a lot more character to the subject. It took many hours to get what I wanted… and I don’t think it’s fully there… but it’s close. I can’t wait to do more photoshoots like this to get more practice at post-production.

took matty to the padres game today and dennis took andy. i didn’t expect much from the team. they’ve been hit with so much bad luck this year — i thought they were going to be middle of the pack at least, not bottom of the barrel.

anyways, this is the first time i brought my nex-3 to the ballpark… enjoy!

thanks to andy for the bomb seats!

matty and andy played in their respective little league all star games today. andy made some great plays on the field and matt threw a 6-pitch, 1-2-3, 6th to get the save for his team.

you’ll notice i’ve put a filter on my pics… just wanted to experiment with some new toy: nik color efex pro. i ran the pics through its film efex: fuji 800z filter. it gives it a near realistic film look… i need to play with that app a little more Read more »

reception: imperial palace, pasadena, california

the venue for the reception was amazing. you hear the name “imperial palace” and think of a scary las vegas hotel/casino where people get shanked, but this one was classy. huge space with a nice dance floor and top-class lighting and sound.

it was a fun reception, though all my shots turned out purple because of the LED lights

oh yea… and this:

ceremony: holy family catholic church in pasadena, california

it was neat to see both desi and tammy moving around the whole church to get their various shots. after the ceremony, outside of the church, it was chaos trying to get family and friends to go straight to the ceremony. everyone wants a photo with the newly-wedded couple. finally, they move on and photos are taken of the wedding entourage. a great moment was when cars would honk their horns as they drove by as a congratulations to the couple.

two of my good friends, desi and tammy mendoza, are amazing photographers. one day, i randomly say that it would be a fun and different experience to tag along with them on a photoshoot. in a sense, to experience the process from the other side of the camera.

well, it turns out their next shoot was a beautiful wedding for di and mikey in pasadena. i would be their assistant, lugging extra lenses and flashes at their side. also, to take photos of them in their element — a side that most really don’t document (nor care about… but i do cuz they’re my friends)

we meet the bride and her crew (and the kardashians on tv) at the westin hotel and then the groom and his entourage (and harry and lloyd) at his apartment to take photos of the makeup, dressing up, and shot taking

so i shot this whole set with the fotasy 35mm lens attached to my trusty nex-3… being a novice, it can get tricky to focus on things — i’m so damn slow with it… but if you get it right, the results look awesome. dramatic is the word

video

this is the first time i took video with the lens… i dunno if i’d do it again — i dunno, what do you think?
