teaser: kanye kinetic typography

i think i’ve listened to bits and pieces of this song about a million times over the weekend… if anyone ever tells you that kinetic typography is easy, slap them in the face and tell them they’re lying

i’m toying with the idea of making a tutorial on this. i used this HELPFUL tutorial written on crooked gremlins. the only thing that kinda bugged me was that their vimeo video didn’t look good in full screen mode (woulda been nice if the camera zoomed in on the details that he clicked on)

if you wanna do one of these, my advice is to HAVE A GAMEPLAN with how it’ll play out on the screen — if you don’t have a plan, you’ll basically be animating your text on the fly, making a ton of changes along the way — extending your time in front of the computer unnecessarily

the finished video will be 1:25, but here’s a 0:15 sample (i took a guess at what they say in the beginning: “awww yeaahhh” as opposed to “ohhhh heeeeey”)

imma let you finish…

some hip-hop for a friday…

such an epic video… i just hope no one starts referring to this song as “the facebook movie song”

kanye west – power

kanye west – power (remix)

jay-z/jimi hendrix mashup – 99 problems and voodoo child

phoenix – open air theatre

phoenix put on a pretty bomb show at sdsu’s open air theatre… i swear they had a different lighting setup for each song

neon indian opened for them — a lot of random sounds layered on top of each other… they output a TON of bass in some of their songs… i swear they hit the brown note a few times. anyway, i wasn’t much of a fan…

here are a few vids and pics i took with my phone. i didn’t realize til the last song that the camcorder feature had a CONCERT setting, which prevents microphone distortion and capturing loud music videos.

songs stuck in my head

last weekend, i played a bonfire-at-the-beach set for friends… it was probably the longest i’ve played the guitar at one time in a loooong while… my fingertips were hatin’ me the next day

the playlist was pretty diverse — from weezer to dave matthews to roy orbison (yea… random)

anyways, these three songs stuck out from the night — they’re stuck in my head still… i gotta say, they’re pretty fun to play and they bring me back almost 10 years when i was first startin’ out on the guitar…

gonna try soundcloud for this — we’ll see how it works

bumpin’ beats again

rockford fosgate p1s410 (10"/150watts)

so i replaced the sub in my car with a rockford fosgate p1s410 (10″, 150 watts rms)… it was sort of a pain to take out the old sub — another rockford fosgate that pretty much lasted me 5+ years (it finally got a tear in it)

apparently the previous bestbuy installer put this tar-like sticky substance that bonded the speaker to the box… to prevent any kind of rattling (and keep it airtight)

anyway… the new sub is in and i HAD to test it out… what song/album did i go for? the album i always look to for testing a new subwoofer: the fight club original motion picture score (by the dust brothers)

“why that album?” you may be asking yourself… well let me answer you with some examples

got any other suggestions for system tester tracks?
